Salad jars are seriously the answer to making sure you eat a salad every weekday and the best part is, your salads still stay fresh even on Day Five.
The beauty of a salad jar is it’s portable (you can tote it along with you to the officee or to a picnic), it’s not plastic (environmentally friendly – yes!), and it’s a pinch to prep.
When you shake out your salad into a bowl, the dressing at the bottom pretty much coats everything because you have to shake it pretty hard to get your salad out. You’ll probably need to toss it a little before tucking in but you’re only seconds away from devouring your salad — perfect for busy people who want to eat healthy.
Now, the secret to salad jar success lies in the order of which ingredients go into the jar first.
Always put in your dressing first so your salad will not get soggy, then hard veggies like cucumber, celery, carrot, then grains like rice, quinoa, or legumes, and then protein, like boiled egg, lean chicken, or tuna, followed by soft veggies like tomatoes, and finally you top everything off with your greens and seal it shut.
Put your salad jar (or jars) in the fridge to store and it should last up till five days.
